Description: Based on the  Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) model, this 5-part webinar series focuses on five specific, active, and measurable skills that professionals of all backgrounds can use to work effectively with children and adults who have been exposed to individual trauma exposure, collective exposures (e.g., community violence or natural disasters), and who continue to struggle with their after effects. The series is designed to enhance staff’s client-focused skill set. In addition, through this series, agency staff will be provided with the skills to understand the impact that trauma can have on child development and human behavior, and gain effective skills to help children and adults become safer in the here and now.
PART ONE: Universal Precautions: The foundation of trauma-informed care
In the first webinar, attendees will review the public health approach to universal precautions around trauma exposure and how to ethically and legally ask about individual-level trauma history.
PART TWO: Â Grounding: Â Reducing intense negative states
The second webinar instructs attendees on the skill of grounding to notice and reduce intense negative states. Â Creativity encouraged!
PART THREE: Â Safety planning: Â Â Addressing unsafe behaviors safely
The third webinar explores the research on the effectiveness of safety plans to prepare clients to act safely when known dangers or crises exist. Â A safe action plan is practiced and provided.
PART FOUR: De-escalation: When, how and with whom?
The fourth webinar focuses on researched-based practical guidance for de-escalation for any professional working in publicly funded systems.
PART FIVE: Â Self Care: A public health approach to well-beingThe fifth webinar investigates self-care with a personal and workplace commitment to the workforce. Â A personal commitment is encouraged!
